What to expect when booking online?

At Corasp the Salon, we offer online booking as a tool for our guests to avoid waiting and make the process easier when getting a service. With just a few clicks, you can secure your time slot with your service provider for your hair service. This process also eliminates the hassle of guests having to carry cash or remember to bring their credit cards to their appointment. Booking online helps to streamline lengthy checkout processes and enhance the customer experience.

How to book:

The process is relatively simple, click on the Book Online button. Once you get to the book online, you first click on the category for the service that you are looking for, for example Blow Dry Bar. Then you select on the service, ex. Silk Press. If you are looking for a specific service provider, you can select the stylist’s name or select any to find any stylist that is available at the day and time that you are needing. The next step is to select the date that you are looking for by clicking on the date field. Once you’ve selected the date, click on the Next button. You will see a list of times that are available on the next screen, so just click the time that works best for you. On the next screen you will see your cart with the service and service provider selected, if you need to add an additional service, you can do this by clicking book more, or you can click Next to continue. Add your name, phone and email address (these will be used to send you notifications about your appointment). In the comments box, please leave any details that would be good for your service provider to know, for example you have shoulder length hair and have previously used box color. After, entering the details, click next. Here you will enter your payment details. Once completed, you will receive a notification confirming your appointment.

Why do I need to pay to make an appointment?

Payment for the service is required when booking an appointment online to secure the appropriate time slot with your service provider. When you book an appointment online, it eliminates the waiting and dedicates that amount of time to you for your service. Guests also have the option to walk-in however, we may or may not be able to service you at that time without an appointment. If you’re not sure of exactly what you need, we recommend booking a consultation where the fee will be applied to your service. It is very disruptive to stylists and guests when the appropriate amount of time isn’t allotted for a service and can throw the entire day off other guests. If you have any questions about booking online, please call us at 904-410-1013.

Why may I need to pay more when in the salon?

The prices listed on the website are starting prices for that service. On the service menu you will find that each price has a + at the end. While we try our best to make selections as easy as possible for booking online, there are times where a person may not be a candidate for a specific service. Also, not all of the services online account for length and density of your hair. Some services may require additional products and service time to accomplish the end result. This is why the prices on our menu are the starting price for each service. Every guest that comes into the salon will have a consultation with their service provider prior to starting any service. In this consultation, your service provider will analyze your hair, confirm exactly what you’re looking for, provide options based on your need, advise if there is anything else additionally needed, and advise on how to maintain the service.

While we love families and children at Corasp The Salon, we are concerned for their safety. Whenever possible, please bring children in only when they have an appointment in the salon.

Smoothing Treatment

Many people want options for maintaining their hair without the chemicals.  A Smoothing Treatment is an option that fits this requirement.  The natural next question is, what is a Smoothing Treatment?

A Smoothing Treatment is a smoothing system to improve hair texture, transforming rough, frizzy hair texture to smooth, sleek hair with a shiny finish without the use of formaldehyde. Since a Smoothing Treatment is a non-chemical, the natural hair can revert back to its original texture. Hair will be more manageable, meaning you will be able to wash, blow-dry, and style the hair. Continued work is involved for the client when this treatment is performed.  The hair will not stay straight permanently.

A Smoothing Treatment is for all hair textures and all ethnicities. If your hair is chemically damaged, a Smoothing Treatment will work for you.  If you are currently transitioning from a relaxer to natural hair, Smoothing Treatment will work for you.  Even if you want to correct a cowlick, or want the hair to part to the other side, a Smoothing Treatment can be the remedy.

Let get into a little more detail about a Smoothing Treatment.

The Process

Before any service is performed, a consultation is given.  Your stylist will examine your hair, ask questions about your hair history, and suggest a treatment that best suits your needs. Your hair is shampooed twice, toweled dry, and sprayed with leave-in spray.  Your hair is parted into 4-6 sections.  The Smoothing Treatment is then applied to the hair from the scalp to the ends and the product is combed through. Once the section has been completed, the client is placed under the steamer for 45-60 minutes.  The hair then gets blow-dryed and flat ironed.

With the humidity a Smoothing Treatment can revert the hair to its natural texture.  You can re-flat iron the hair.  Again, maintenance is involved with a Smoothing Treatment.  When re-flat ironing. its recommended that the sections are no more then ¼” and use heat protection.

Q & A’s

Why would a person choose a Smoothing Treatment vs. Silk Press?

A Silk Press is a temporary way to keep your straight and will revert the instant that moisture, sweat or humidity touches the hair. If you want your straight hair to last a little longer, then it is recommended you get a Smoothing Treatment or Keratin options.

What is the difference between the Smoothing Treatment and Keratin Treatment?

Smoothing Treatment is not a chemical and can last in the hair up to 12 weeks. Your hair texture will revert back when shampooing your hair. Keratin Treatment is a chemical and will reduce your curl or wave pattern between 30-50% and this can last up to 6 months with boosters.

What to expect when getting a Smoothing Treatment?

A Smoothing Treatment is a process and can take up to 4 hours to complete. This service includes shampoo, the treatment, blow-dry, and flat iron style. We will show you how to maintain the treatment. For 72 hours it is required NOT to wash the hair and NOT to wear hair ties.

How to manage your hair after getting a Smoothing Treatment?

Hair wrapping or pin curling is suggested to maintain the look. For shine, it’s highly recommended to use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. We offer a monthly maintenance called Booster Treatment to help with the new hair growth. For hair washing, we suggest sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. Always use heat protectant before flat ironing the hair to prevent heat damage.

Who’s a candidate for a Smoothing Treatment?

If you want your hair to be more manageable or is chemically damage, this treatment is for you. If you are looking for a treatment that has no chemicals and want to keep your current hair texture, then this treatment is for you.

Is a Smoothing Treatment a chemical?

No, a Smoothing Treatment is not a chemical.

How long does the Smoothing Treatment last?

The Smoothing Treatment can last up to 8-12 weeks with proper maintenance.

How to get 12 weeks out of your Smoothout Treatment?

Using the proper shampoo, conditioner, serum and heat protectant can help with the longevity of your Smoothout Treatment. Also visiting the salon monthly for the Booster Treatment, which can help with the new growth will help to maintain the treatment even longer.

What products can I use to maintain the Smoothing Treatment?

Products that are sulfate free and salon brand products. Using non-salon brands can destroy the life span of the Smoothing Treatment.

Can I get the Smoothing Treatment if my hair is chemically treated?

Yes, if your hair is chemically treated, you can get a Smoothing Treatment, however it is recommended that a consultation is performed to confirm.

Can children get a Smoothing Treatment?

How Long Will My Silk Press Last?

This is an extremely common question for women who have natural hair. If you google the term, you will find a variety of blog articles that say anywhere from one to three weeks, if done properly. Personally, I feel that the question is actually too general and will not give you the answer that will pertain to you and your hair.

First off, location matters. For natural hair in Jacksonville, Florida, we deal with high humidity. For natural hair straightening, water(humidity) is the enemy. This humidity will definitely affect the lifespan of your blowout.

Second, your lifestyle matters. Are you working out and sweating? Are you indoors our outside for long periods of time? These details actually matter. Is your hair trained? Is this your first silk press in a year or do you get them done bi-weekly? Do you think that those two different scenarios will have different results? The answer is yes clearly.. If your hair is trained you will have different results.

Third, there is a misconception that all African Americans have the same hair texture. This is very far from the truth. And those different textures are going to last for different periods of time.

Fourth, condition of your hair/scalp. Your hair history matters. Are you coming out of braids? What is the integrity of your hair? How dry is your hair/scalp?

Fifth, how are you maintaining your silk press? Are you wrapping your hair as much as possible?

We are starting on a video series to help educate our viewers on their natural hair journey. There is not a one size fits all answer to the initial question. But we are looking forward to help provide you with the tools to make your natural hair as healthy as it can be. There are options for your natural hair and we are going to share some options with you. Subscribe to our YouTube channel below to get notifications of these videos.
